The Bridge Community Church is a network of missional communities (cell families) – small groups of people, joined by the Gospel, pursuing the renewal and redemption of their community together. Missional cell family is the primary way to connect with others at The Bridge Community and pursue life on mission.

A missional cell family is not JUST a small group, Bible study, support group, social activist group, or a weekly meeting. It can involve these sorts of things, but it doesn’t stop there.

Our missional cell families worship God, live in community, get trained for ministry, and make disciples together… over time. Being involved in community is critical to being the church rather than simply attending church

Get involved!

Together we —

Share life and truth.
We are more than a meeting; we are a community that shares life throughout the week: meals, trials, vacation, mission, etc. We are imperfect but are united by the perfecting truth of the gospel of grace.

Pray for one another and St. Francois County
We pray regularly for one another, our neighbors, and our county because we know that it is ultimately God who renews the county.

Engage peoples and cultures.
Our missional cells engage the cultures of our surrounding context with genuine interest, love, and the hope of redemption.

Love one another.
We are bound together by mutual love and encouragement. We’re a family.

Why do we do this?
Gospel principles that guide missional cell.

We are all broken.
We are all more broken than we want to admit, and God is more holy than we comprehend.

We all need Jesus.
In Jesus we are more forgiven and accepted than we can imagine, and God is more delighted in us than we understand.

We all need one another.
We need each other to share our struggles and joys in following Jesus.

Our county needs the Gospel.
The gospel of Christ changes and renews the peoples and cultures of the county.

Well, we did it. We gave away over $6000 this morning at The Bridge so that people in need could be served for the glory of God. I love our faith community and I think that we are going to be amazed at what happens as we share stories of blessing people. Please let us know what happens with your gift. We have already heard about a couple of amazing stories.

Instructions for Our Radical Response:

    * Take this money and use it to be missional in meeting someone’s need.
* Consider how/if you can increase it or how you can use it to build a relationship.
* You can’t give it back to the church, but you may consider giving it to our continued mission in Haiti.
* Let us know what you did with it. Go to The Bridge blog spot and tell your story of Radical Response.

http://www.thebridgechurch.blogspot.com/

Why are we doing this? We are responding as a faith community to the word preached at The Bridge on July 18th, 2010.

In 1938, just before World War II, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote Life Together, a moving little book on the principles of Christian community. Eighteen and a half centuries earlier the apostle Paul wrote what has come to be known as 1 Corinthians, a fascinating commentary on one Christian community that he founded.

Why should we read this letter?

Simply because we all have to live together with people, in Christian contexts and otherwise. Whether the situation involves a close friendship, a roommate, a spouse, a missional cell, a family, an office, a campus, a neighborhood or a church, the challenges of life together will inevitably crop up. Church community life is not immune to these problems, and Corinth was particularly susceptible. As a result, we can benefit from Paul’s advice to that community.

Are there fan-clubs and power struggles in the communities of which you are a part?

Are you plagued by people who think they are spiritually or intellectually superior?

How do you handle immorality, especially when it begins to invade the church?

What is the proper way to exercise your rights, especially when a friend wrongs you or you feel that a matter of principle is at stake?

How do we regulate marriage and singleness in today’s culture?

How are we ever going to solve the battle of the sexes?

What is the path to respecting one another’s personality and gifts?

Should the gospel make a difference in how we live together today?

What is the gospel?

If any of these questions are relevant to your life and communities, then 1 Corinthians has something to say to you.

Join us as we begin a new Sermons Series in 1 Corinthians titled, Church Gone Wild!

Our next Baptism Celebration is June 19th, at 10:00 AM. It will be held at the home of Jon and Lisa Bird. They live at 233 Buzzard Rock Road in Farmington, MO. If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Tim or Ben today. The celebration will be followed by a picnic lunch.

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is an obedient response and expression of your faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. Baptism also represents the means by which followers of Jesus are identified. It is the outward symbol of an inward act and a step of obedience in your journey with Him.

WHY BE BAPTIZED?

The New Testament offers the following reasons to be baptized:

* To follow Christ’s example (Mark 1:9)
* To follow Christ’s commandment (Matthew 28:19)
* To demonstrate your faith (Acts 18:8)

DO BRIDGE MEMBERS HAVE TO BE BAPTIZED?

Since Jesus commands that all of his disciples be baptized, baptism is a requirement for all Bridge members (Matt. 28:19; Acts 2:38; 10:48; 1 Peter 3:21). If you’ve already been baptized since you became a Christian, you don’t need to get re-baptized. The Bridge performs believer baptisms only, which means we don’t baptize infants. If a prospective member was baptized as a baby and does not want to be re-baptized due to reasons of conscience and understanding of theology, that is acceptable as long as this decision remains personal and does not become a divisive issue within the church. If you have more questions about baptism specifically, please speak with a pastor.

The Alpha Course begins June 1st at The Bridge. Alpha is a worldwide phenomenon. It’s found in over 160 countries. It’s run in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations. More than 13 million people have taken this opportunity to explore the meaning of life. Perhaps it’s your turn.

What Is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course usually meets once per week for 12 weeks, and includes an amazing overnight getaway. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Who Is Alpha For?

Alpha is for anyone…anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets the eye.

People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life. Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the Alpha course.

Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome.

Our culture usually views idols as either an old piece of gold or wood that we bow down to, or as something really bad, or maybe as something we would really like to be (like the American Idol). The Biblical definition of an idol (or idolatry) is anything that we elevate above God for our joy, our meaning, or our identity.

They are usually not bad things.

These ‘counterfeit gods’ are generally something good that we have elevated to an improper status. Money, sex, and power are the main and obvious ones, but there are sneaky idols of the heart like dedication to family or to church work that can separate us from God in sin in a flash.

Starting on Easter morning, we are going to examine idolatry in the hearts of some of the heroes of the Bible from Genesis 25-35. They elevate their fleshly desires above God in blatant disobedience. The absurd idolatry of these people, who end up in God’s Hall of Fame, will show us our need to turn to the Gospel — just as they eventually worshiped Him. We are a sick people, full of idols of the heart, in desperate need of a Savior.

Come and join us on April 4 for one of the most interesting trips through a section of Scripture that we have taken yet. Join us for “Counterfeit Gods.”
